Qualifications

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled and safety-conscious Substation Technician to join their operations in Welkom . This hands-on role is vital for the maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical substation equipment, ensuring the reliable flow of power from generation to distribution points within the energy sector . You will work with high-voltage equipment, performing routine inspections and complex diagnostics to prevent outages and ensure the integrity of the network. Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, testing , and repair of substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and relays.
• Conduct diagnostic testing on high-voltage equipment using specialized test instruments.
• Respond to emergency calls for troubleshooting and repair of substation faults.
• Assist in the installation and commissioning of new substation equipment.
• Read and interpret schematic diagrams , blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Adhere strictly to all safety procedures and protocols for working in a substation environment.

Requirements

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Substation Technician or in a similar role.
• Proficiency in operating and interpreting test equipment for high-voltage apparatus.
• Understanding of substation construction , maintenance, and safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often under pressure.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the Welkom area.
