Job summary

HDR is seeking a Substation Site Civil Engineer to support the Power Delivery team in North Carolina. You will lead site civil design tasks, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure high-quality construction documentation across projects from concept to commissioning.

Ideal candidates have a PE license, 5+ years in site civil design for high-voltage substations, and familiarity with regulations. Travel may be required; local NC candidates preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Civil Engineering and PE license.
• Minimum 5 years of technical site civil design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects.
• Experience with DOT access-road requirements, stormwater regs and FEMA flood plain requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and design software (PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit).
• Active participation in employee-owned culture and ability to work across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute site civil engineering tasks such as grading, drainage, stormwater, erosion control.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary substation teams across disciplines.
• Prepare specifications for construction materials and review permits.
• Mentor EITs or CAD/Designers and support multiple projects.
• Contribute to technical papers or presentations for industry events.
