Job summary

HDR is seeking a Substation Site Civil Engineer to join the Power Delivery team in North Carolina. You will lead site civil design, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure compliant, high-quality substation projects from concept through commissioning.

Preferred qualifications include a PE license and 5+ years of experience in high voltage substation design. Travel may be required as HDR serves utility clients nationwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required and PE license preferred.
• 5+ years of technical site civil design experience for high voltage substation projects.
• Familiarity with DOT access-road, stormwater, erosion control, FEMA floodplain regulations.
• Experience with engineering consulting or architectural/engineering firms ideal.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and design software listed.

Responsibilities

• Lead, oversee, review, and execute site civil tasks: grading, drainage, stormwater, erosion & sediment control.
• Establish and maintain technical standards, guidelines, and practices.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary substation teams (physical, structural, electrical, geotechnical, environmental).
• Prepare/review construction specifications and material specs; submit permits.
• Monitor best practices and technologies in substation site design.
• Perform quality checks per HDR QMS; support project deliverables.
• Mentor EITs or CADD/Designers; supervise as needed.
• Support multiple projects concurrently across locations; travel may be required.
