Job summary

Primoris Power Solutions seeks a SCADA / Relay Settings Engineer to design, configure, test, and commission electrical protection and SCADA systems for utility, industrial, and renewable energy projects. You will work with protection engineers, SCADA teams, and field staff through design, testing, and energization phases.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and at least 3 years in power systems, relay protection, or substation automation, with travel up to 40% and strong

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in power systems engineering, relay protection, SCADA engineering, or substation automation.
• Experience developing protection settings for utility transmission and distribution systems.
• Working knowledge of power system protection principles, including line, transformer, bus, feeder, generator, and differential protections.
• Experience with SCADA and substation automation architectures.
• Strong understanding of electrical drawings, relay schematics, and control diagrams.
• Ability to interpret utility standards and protection philosophies.
• Willingness to travel 20–40% as required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement protection relay settings for transmission, distribution, generation, and substation facilities.
• Perform protection system coordination studies and short-circuit analyses.
• Create relay settings files for SEL, GE, ABB/Hitachi, Siemens, Beckwith, Schweitzer, and other microprocessor-based relays.
• Analyze one-line diagrams, schematics, and protection philosophies to establish protection requirements.
• Conduct relay setting calculations and peer reviews for accuracy and compliance.
• Support relay acceptance testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and post-event analysis.
• Investigate relay operations and provide root-cause analysis for protection system events.
• Configure, integrate, and test SCADA systems for substations, renewables, and BESS.
• Develop and validate point lists, communication mappings, and data acquisition requirements.
• Configure RTUs, PLCs, HMIs, gateways, and communication processors.
• Develop and execute SCADA FAT/SAT procedures and troubleshoot networks.
