Job summary

AES Indiana is seeking a Substations Protection & Control Engineer to work in our Indianapolis, Indiana offices. The role covers design and implementation of substation P&C for 13.2kV to 345kV.

You will develop designs, calculations, and studies, either solo or with a team, ensuring reliability and alignment with AES standards. We welcome all experience levels and expect collaboration across disciplines, SCADA integration, and rigorous documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems from an ABET accredited program.
• Working understanding of power system symmetrical components.
• Ability to work as a team member, as well as independently.
• A high level of interpersonal communication skills, including strong command of English.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• AutoCAD software skills are preferred.
• Professional Engineer registration or plan to become registered is preferred.
• Prior utility or consulting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Complete substation protection and control designs including panel arrangements and ladder diagrams.
• Perform detailed analysis of protection schemes and suggest improvements.
• Develop cable schedules and bill of materials.
• Apply and interconnect SCADA and communications in substations.
• Compute relay settings and study system coordination.
• Create and review transmission and distribution relay diagrams.
• Review fault events and propose remedial actions.
• Iterate designs balancing cost, scope and constructability.
• Coordinate design activities with multi-discipline teams.
• Represent AES Indiana to the public and customers.
• Collaborate with team members to incorporate standards and best practices.
• Develop equipment and service specifications.
• Manage project documents and support procurement.
• Ensure schedules are met and provide on-site technical direction when needed.
