Job summary

Southern Company is seeking a Substation Design Control Engineer/Designer to design protective relay and control schemes for substations using microprocessor-based relay systems. The role includes specifying and ordering materials and transmitting drawing packages per Transmission Engineering processes.

Based in Metro Atlanta, GA with up to 25% travel, the position requires strong CAD skills, knowledge of design standards, and collaboration across engineering and field teams to support storm

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or equivalent in electrical field with relevant experience (5+ years).
• Experience with substation protection & control and relay testing is a strong plus.
• Proficiency with CAD-based design and documentation per company standards.

Responsibilities

• Design protective relay & control schemes for substations using microprocessor-based relays.
• Specify and order material for substation design packages including stock and non-stock items.
• Transmit drawing packages and specs using Transmission Engineering processes.
• Coordinate with other departments and vendors; support field teams and storm restoration.
