Job summary

Actalent is seeking an experienced Substation Electrical Engineer with a strong utility background to lead engineering projects from concept through completion. You will develop project scopes, one-line diagrams, and material estimates for substations, and coordinate with in-house and client engineers.

The role involves reviewing construction drawings to ensure code compliance, designing lightning protection and grounding systems, and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum eight years of experience in utilities working with substations.
• Minimum eight years of experience completing engineering projects from start to finish.
• Minimum eight years of experience scoping, estimating, and ordering materials for substations.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. Master’s Degree will count toward years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop project scopes, one-line diagrams, and estimates for substation projects.
• Review substation construction drawings and verify compliance with codes and standards.
• Engineer and design lightning protection, grounding, and equipment replacement and repair for substations.
• Make changes to drawings and documentation as needed.
• Verify proper use of equipment and material according to project standards.
• Ensure materials and equipment are ordered and delivered on time for substation construction.
• Travel to project sites for walk downs and information gathering to scope projects.
• Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities within teams to complete substation projects.
• Provide training and guidance to lower-level employees.
• Identify and initiate corrective action when objectives are not met.
• Interpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projects.
• Promote engineering professionalism and standards.
• Develop, recommend, and implement plans including scheduling and resources for complex engineering.
• Occasional site visits required.
