Job summary

Grid United is seeking a Substation Engineering Manager to lead AC substation and switchyard design for major transmission projects in the United States. You will manage design teams, interface with civil/structural, environmental, and construction groups, and ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence.

The role focuses on AC interfaces with HVDC systems and requires developing HVDC knowledge while contributing to multi-state transmission efforts.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
5+ years’ experience managing substation engineering design (including protection & control and/or primary/physical). 8+ years preferred.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; experience with protection, control, and BoP components; strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Lead engineering and design activities for substation and/or switchyard scopes in major transmission projects; coordinate with internal resources, external consultants, and project stakeholders.
Oversee planning of facility design activities: scope, budget, schedule, and interfaces with transmission and civil/structural teams.
Review detailed design submittals, calculations, and studies to ensure safety, standards, permitting and land requirements, and execution readiness.
Provide technical support to other disciplines for development, interconnection studies, permitting, landowner coordination, procurement, and commissioning readiness.
Travel up to 25% to project sites and interfaces with clients and vendors.
