Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a Substation/Transmission Engineer to oversee high voltage project design and construction across the United States, with a focus on the Western portfolio. The role emphasizes grid integration for renewables and data center interconnections, working with EPCs to ensure compliance and performance.

The ideal candidate will have HV design experience, strong leadership and collaboration skills, and the ability to coordinate with utilities, EPCs, and internal teams.

Qualifications

• B.S. Electrical Engineering required.
• 7+ years of technical design experience for senior role (substation design, transmission line design, power flow/studies).
• Experience in HV substation design and grid integration for renewables.
• Strong communication and ability to lead technical discussions with EPCs, utilities, and stakeholders.
• Travel ~25%; willing to work across the US and coordinate with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Oversee EPC engineering design and construction of HV substations and transmission lines (35kV–500kV).
• Review Substation EPC designs for interconnection and reliability compliance.
• Coordinate power system studies (load flows, short circuits, harmonics, TOV, insulation coordination).
• Interact with Interconnection Providers and internal stakeholders to meet project requirements.
• Support substation commissioning and testing coordination with utilities and ISO.
