Job summary

Grid United is seeking a Substation Engineering Manager in Houston, TX to lead AC substation and switchyard design for major transmission projects. You will manage scope, budget, and schedule, collaborate with multiple disciplines, and drive engineering excellence.

The role emphasizes HVDC compatibility, protection and control, and experience leading external teams. A PE license and ABET-degree are preferred, with a strong background in power systems and project execution.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (ABET-accredited).
5+ years in substation engineering design; 8+ years preferred.
Experience with protection & control, primary/physical, and BoP integration.
Proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation; MS Office suite.
Familiarity with HVDC, FACTS/STATCOM, and substation technologies.

Responsibilities

Lead design and execution of substations/switchyards for major transmission projects.
Coordinate interfaces with civil/structural, environmental, and construction teams.
Review submittals, calculations and studies for safety, standards and compliance.
Provide support to other disciplines during development, permitting, and commissioning.
Engage with suppliers for technical and commercial alignment.
Travel up to 25% as needed.
