Job summary

Ampirical is seeking a Substation Civil Engineer with a focus on foundation design to deliver advanced analyses for substation foundations and equipment supports. You will interact with clients, internal teams, and vendors, developing complete design packages and providing mentorship to junior engineers.

The role requires geotechnical interpretation, complex calculations, and proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil 3D and Bentley Substation; FE/EIT preferred or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• 3+ years of foundation or structural engineering experience; 2 additional years accepted in lieu of FE certification.
• Proficiency in foundation and structural analysis software (L-Pile, RISA, Autodesk Inventor, etc.).
• Knowledge of ASCE, ACI, AISC, and AASHTO; ability to develop detailed foundation plans with minimal oversight.

Responsibilities

• Prepare scopes of work, estimates, and technical documentation for foundation engineering on substation projects.
• Identify appropriate foundation types based on geotechnical conditions and loading.
• Perform advanced foundation engineering calculations including bearing capacity, settlement, uplift resistance, and lateral resistance.
• Conduct structural analysis for substation equipment foundations and support structures.
• Develop foundation plans and calculation packages for IFR/IFA/IFC deliverables.
• Interface with clients, project managers, and vendors to coordinate design decisions.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide QC reviews.
