Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking candidates for a May 24, 2027 internship in the Major Projects Group. The in-person role develops your skills in construction project management and field engineering on active power plant projects.

You will gain hands-on experience with engineering drawings, reporting, and cross-team collaboration, while applying classroom knowledge and learning from staff across the organization.

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher
• Enrolled in ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering
• Must have a reliable means of transportation to attend in-person at the designated project site
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commute to the designated work location in-person, per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Participate in construction oversight and planning, field inspections, and safety observations.
• Collaborate with Xcel staff to ensure the project is built in accordance with applicable engineering codes and standards.
• Learn about drawing updates and field engineering changes that occur during an active project.
• Gain knowledge of how to manage vital professional project relationships.
• Assist with internal documentation, tracking of project metrics, and reporting.
• Assist with vendor outreach and coordination.

ABET accredited college or university pursuing Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering
