Job summary

Xcel Energy in Amarillo, Texas is offering a Substation Field Engineering internship designed to give you hands-on exposure to the operation, maintenance, and reliability of SPS substations. You will work with experienced engineers on capital and maintenance projects and gain skills reading electrical schematics and drawings.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a student in an ABET-accredited college/university pursuing Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Must be able to travel frequently (day travel; overnight travel rarely).
• Willing to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours/week).

Responsibilities

• Support engineers in substation capital and maintenance projects.
• Develop proficiency reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
• Assist withTroubleshooting substation equipment and evaluating corrective actions.
• Review equipment test results and assess equipment condition and performance.
• Manage small-scope engineering projects from planning through completion.
• Gain exposure to substation design, maintenance, testing, and field operations.
