Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering a Substation Field Engineering Intern position in Minnesota. The role blends office engineering with hands-on field exposure, supporting safe, reliable substation operations and fast-track equipment replacement projects.

The internship starts May 24, 2027 and may extend based on performance. Applicants must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited program and be able to work up to 40 hours weekly in summer, with hybrid in-person work.

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher enrolled in ABET accredited program.
• Enrolled in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Systems Engineering, or related field.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commute to the designated location in-person under hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Assist with reviewing engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Support development of construction work packages and scope of work documents.
• Help track project schedules, budgets, and material deliveries.
