Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking a Transmission Substation Specialist to provide field technical services for maintenance, testing, and commissioning of substations up to 100 kV and support up to 500 kV. The role will involve extensive field work across substations and regional sites, with emphasis on safety, testing, and timely project delivery.

The candidate should have an engineering technology background or related degree, with substation experience and knowledge of protection/control equipment.

Qualifications

• Requires Bachelors or ABET-equivalent; Strong preference for Engineering Technology background.
• Associate degree with 3 years related experience acceptable.
• Alternative: 5 years substation experience in lieu of a degree.
• Familiarity with protection/control equipment, markings, and field testing is a plus.
• Experience with SEL, Enoserve RTS, and Doble testing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and comply with industry regs and company practices.
• Commission and modify substation equipment up to 100 kV; support up to 500 kV as needed.
• Develop test plans, review results, and create energization plans to minimize risk.
• Provide on-site design support and field engineering services for maintenance projects.
• Support regional substation activities and assist in troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Communicate across multi-disciplinary teams to ensure timely project completion.
• Assist in root-cause analyses and development of technical reports.
