Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp. seeks a substation field engineer to perform maintenance, construction, testing and commissioning of equipment up to 500kV across multiple offices in PA.

The role involves significant fieldwork at substations and service centers with collaboration across engineering, operations, and external contractors. Qualifications include ABET-accredited engineering degrees and PE/FE credentials as appropriate; a minimum of two years of engineering experience is required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BSEE/BSCE/BSME required or equivalent.
• PE license accepted as alternative.
• ABET-accredited Engineering Technology degree accepted as alternative.
• Non-ABET degree with ABET-accredited advanced degree accepted.
• FE certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide field engineering services for maintenance, construction, testing and commissioning of substations up to 500kV.
• Develop and review test results, isolation and energization plans to minimize system risk.
• Provide onsite technical support during preventive and corrective maintenance at substations.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and external vendors to ensure project completion.
• Travel to various company and customer substations; readiness for overtime and overnight stays as needed.

Education

ABET-accredited BSEE/BSCE/BSME

Professional Engineer (PE) license

ABET-accredited Engineering Technology degree

Non-ABET degree + ABET-certified advanced degree
