Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking an Equipment Engineer III/IV to support substation equipment, review field tests, and guide Asset Health Center/APM parameters. The role involves developing maintenance practices, repair specifications, and providing technical support across capital projects and maintenance activities.

Candidates should have an engineering background (ABET) with 3+ years of experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to travel across the FE system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (ABET).
• PE license or ABET-accredited Engineering Technology degree; otherwise advanced degree considered.
• FE certificate preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of engineering experience required.
• Working knowledge of MS Office, SAP, Power BI; familiarity with FileNet, Cascade, QlikView helpful.
• Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
• Experience with electrical substation equipment or utility environments is highly beneficial.
• Ability to manage multiple projects under deadlines and coordinate across teams.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Providing technical assistance and support for substation equipment.
• Review field test results and advise on resolutions for deficiencies.
• Provide guidance for Asset Health Center/APM equipment tests and actions.
• Advise on parameters for future assets to be added to Asset Health Center/APM.
• Develop maintenance practices to address tech changes and regulatory updates.
• Create repair specifications for major equipment.
• Provide technical support during capital projects and preventive maintenance.
• Support training programs for TSS employees and regional personnel.
• Stay aware of industry issues through benchmarking and participation in utility forums.
• Maintain a safe workplace and participate in storm-related emergency plans.
• Travel within the FirstEnergy system, including occasional overnight stays.
• Collaborate with regional and plant personnel and external vendors on projects.
