Job summary

ACS Professional Staffing seeks a Substation Engineering Manager in Charlotte, NC. This senior leadership role oversees day-to-day operations, manages engineers and designers, interfaces with clients to resolve project and technical issues, and drives business development in utility markets.

The position reports to the Business Unit General Manager and leads cross-functional teams, ensuring safe, compliant project execution and growth through client relationships and strategic proposals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
• MBA, PMP or Engineering Management master’s preferred.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) required; license in other states a plus.
• 10+ years in substation and relaying experience; 5+ years in engineering consulting.
• 5+ years of people management and strong business networks.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional oversight of engineers, designers, and technicians.
• Manage accounts and maintain long-term client relationships.
• Conduct career development reviews and growth opportunities for direct reports.
• Forecast resource needs and monitor backlog for hiring.
• Ensure cross-office collaboration to resolve design conflicts.
• Provide QC reviews on substation protection and relaying design.
• Prepare budgets, scopes, and bid specifications; support proposals.
