Job summary

Energy Jobline ZR in Charlotte, NC seeks an experienced Substation Engineering Manager to lead engineering and design across major power projects, including utility-scale solar, BESS, and renewables. You will guide teams, manage external consultants, and drive designs from concept through construction and commissioning.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in electrical engineering with substation design, strong MV/HV knowledge, and proven leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of electrical engineering experience with substations.
• Experience leading engineering teams and consultants.
• Knowledge of MV/HV substations, protection & control, grounding.
• Experience across utility, transmission, or renewable projects.
• Familiarity with IEEE/ANSI standards, NEC, NESC.
• Strong communication and project management skills.
• PE license.
• Experience with solar, BESS, EPC.
• Substations from 34.5kV–500kV.
• SCADA and substation automation knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation engineering and design activities across multiple projects.
• Oversee one-line diagrams, physical layouts, grounding, protection & control, and equipment specifications.
• Manage external engineering consultants and ensure designs meet quality, constructability, cost, and compliance requirements.
• Coordinate with utilities, vendors, procurement, construction, and project management teams.
• Support equipment procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and field engineering.
• Establish engineering standards, quality-control processes, and design best practices.
• Mentor engineering professionals and drive continuous improvement.
