Job summary

Spencer Ogden in Charlotte, NC, seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer / Project Lead to oversee the technical delivery of utility-scale solar PV, BESS, and high-voltage substation projects from 2 MW to 100+ MW. This is a fully office-based role in Charlotte, Monday to Friday.

You will lead across design, procurement, construction, and commissioning, coordinating electrical, civil, mechanical, and structural teams, and ensuring NEC/NESC/IEEE compliance and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 5–10+ years of utility-scale solar PV, BESS, or substation engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE standards and interconnection requirements.
• Experience with ETAP, SKM, PVSyst, CYME or similar software.
• Strong technical leadership and project coordination skills.

• Manage power system studies, technical specifications, equipment selection, and design reviews.
• Liaise with utilities, RTOs/ISOs, project owners, and EPC contractors.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE, and relevant safety standards.
• Support project delivery, quality control, cost optimisation, and technical risk management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 5–10+ years of direct utility-scale solar PV, BESS, and/or substation engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE standards, and utility interconnection requirements.
• Experience with ETAP, SKM, PVSyst, CYME, or similar engineering software.
• Strong technical leadership and project coordination skills.

Preferred: PE license, RTO/ISO interconnection experience, and HV commissioning or relay coordination experience.
