Job summary

NiSource is offering a Summer Substation Engineering Electrical Intern role in Merrillville, IN for 12 weeks starting May 2027. The intern will work under engineering staff, learning and contributing to project work, field measurements, and data analysis across utility facilities.

Ideal candidates are ABET-accredited four-year engineering students with at least one year completed, strong communication, and proficiency in AutoCAD, Excel, and Access. A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited four-year engineering program (Electrical, Civil, or related).
• Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week.
• Proficient with PC applications; preferred strong skills with AutoCad and MS Excel & Access.
• Proven communication skills and ability to convey technical concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineering staff on projects for utility facilities.
• Evaluate, design, estimate, and provide project management for electrical facilities of varying complexity.
• Create job order sketches using AutoCad and perform field measurements.
• Assemble data to create job order estimates and support project budgeting.
