Job summary

NiSource is offering a Summer Electric Distribution Planning Intern position based in Merrillville, IN, for 12 weeks starting May 2027. The Intern Engineer will work under supervision to assist a Distribution Planning Engineer, gaining hands-on experience with distribution system modeling, databases, and project planning.

Ideal candidates are current engineering students who have completed at least two years of undergrad, are authorized to work in the US, and are pursuing an ABET-accredited

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited four-year engineering program.
• Must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study.
• Proficiency with PC applications and strong Python and MS Excel & Access skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist a Distribution Planning Engineer on project tasks.
• Develop and update electric distribution system databases and studies.
• Use CYME modeling to assess system adequacy and identify improvements.
• Support on-time execution of distribution projects.
