Job description

• Support power system modeling in company short circuit modeling
• Collect and coordinate event information for the On-Call Engineer
• Perform short circuit analysis studies
• Develop relay settings for small capital projects
• Assist compliance subject matter experts with required documentation
• Support substation design tasks, including one-line diagrams, layouts, and basic calculations
• Assist with drawing updates, design packages, and standards documentation
• Perform basic engineering calculations and data validation
• Participate in design reviews and coordination meetings
• Support site visit preparation and documentation
• Organize and analyze project data and engineering records
• Learn how Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) are programmed using Distributed Network Protocol (DNP)
• Assist with configuring network settings for substation cyber assets
• Observe and help investigate network event logs
• Gain foundational understanding of the Energy Management System (EMS), system protection concepts, and cybersecurity considerations in electric power operations
• Support substation commissioning tasks to prove correct operation of protection and control schemes
• Develop commissioning test plans, including modeling faults and verifying plans in the lab
• Support commissioning sign-off sheets, reports, artifact collection, and submittals
• Support commissioning schedule management

Requirements

• Current student, Freshman or higher
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)
• Able to work part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week)
• Able to commute to the designated work location in-person, per the hybrid work policy
• Coursework in power systems or electrical engineering fundamentals (e.g., AC circuits) preferred
• Interest in electric utility infrastructure or substation engineering preferred
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills preferred
