Job summary

Jobtailor in Missouri seeks an experienced Substation Engineering Manager to lead multi-discipline EPC projects. You will plan, design, and oversee substation engineering efforts, ensuring on-time delivery and client satisfaction.

You will mentor a team, coordinate with PMs, vendors, and consultants, and ensure QA/QC compliance while developing budgets and proposals using MicroStation, AutoCAD, Milsoft, ETAP, and SKM.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 8+ years of direct substation engineering experience.
• PE license in MI or ability to obtain within 3 months.
• Proficient with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of relay settings, SCADA, DFR, RTU architectures.
• Strong Windows skills (Word/Excel).
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
• Familiar with Milsoft, ETAP, SKM.

Responsibilities

• Ensure QA/QC adherence across deliverables.
• Mentor and grow a team of engineers and drafters.
• Oversee day-to-day team activities and set goals.

Job description

• Develop project plans, including project scope of work and WBS for complex multi-discipline substation Engineering and EPC projects
• Manage substation project execution, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, vendors, consultants, and contractors
• Track and stabilize projects, implement solutions to obstacles, and ensure client goals are achieved
• Attend client meetings and communicate concerns and changes to maintain relationships and identify growth opportunities
• Prepare and review preliminary designs
• Prepare proposals, including budgetary estimates
• Lead development of plans, specifications, studies, estimates, material lists, and other deliverables
• Ensure team adherence to the QA/QC program
• Develop or modify electrical layouts, foundation layouts, section/elevation views, conduit layouts, grounding layouts, and control building drawings
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers and designers
• Manage day-to-day team activities and set goals and expectations
• Assist with annual performance reviews and recruiting, including job requisitions and interviews

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
• 8+ years of direct substation physical and electrical engineering experience
• Professional Engineering license in MI or the ability to obtain licensure within 3 months
• Solid understanding and ability to use design software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD
• Understands relay settings and SCADA, DFR, RTU architecture and is able to lead substation upgrade projects with staff
• Proficient with Windows-based software such as Word and Excel
• Strong communication skills with customer presentations and technical knowledge of risks and concerns
• Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs including Milsoft, ETAP, and SKM
• Ability to work in a team environment with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and drafters in multi-discipline groups
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong attention to detail and work product quality
