Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Substation Engineer to design and develop MV/LV distribution and substation projects in California, focusing on modern grid solutions and BESS integration.

You will perform power system studies, set up relay protections, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, reliable projects. Hybrid work in SF Bay Area with opportunities for growth and mentorship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
• 5+ years of experience in utility, consulting, or substation design engineering.
• Demonstrated experience in substation design, distribution engineering, and power delivery projects.
• Proficiency with relay settings and programming using SEL, GE, or other major manufacturer software.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop distribution and substation projects, including MV/LV transformers, switchgear, protection and control schemes, and service connections.
• Conduct power system modeling and studies using ETAP, SKM, CYME, or ASPEN, including load flow, short circuit, and coordination analysis.
• Develop relay settings using software such as SEL AcSELerator, GE Enervista, ASPEN, or equivalent tools.
• Coordinate with vendors and field teams to support procurement, installation, and commissioning.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge-sharing within the team.
