Job summary

American Electric Power in the United States is seeking a Station Electrician/Servicer to install, inspect and repair station equipment and respond to emergencies to restore service. You will work under supervision, perform switching, inspections, and maintenance, and coordinate with contractors as required.

The role requires electrical maintenance expertise, a CDL, and knowledge of safety procedures and NERC standards.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in electrical/mechanical/industrial maintenance technology or equivalent education.
• Equivalent education/experience via military training or prior station electrician roles.
• 2 years experience as Station Servicer A or 2 years as Station Electrician A with overtime responsiveness.
• Valid Class A CDL required.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
• Knowledge of transmission policies and procedures.
• Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency calls on station trouble; analyze station conditions following failures and repair if safe and practicable, otherwise coordinate prompt restoration of service.
• Perform routine and emergency switching operations at substations as directed by proper authority, in accordance with station procedures.
• Perform switching operations for line construction and maintenance activities as required.
• Be proficient at EHV switching as necessary.
• Lead DC Supply installation and repair work in area while ensuring proper documentation.
• Perform periodic inspections on equipment such as radios, carrier current, telemetering, pilot wire and control equipment to ensure NERC compliance.
