Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Full‑Time Electrical Engineering (Substation) Intern for the Meridian, ID office with consideration for Reno, NV. The 12‑week summer internship starts May 17, 2027, offering exposure to substation design tasks and collaboration with senior engineers.

You will learn IEEE/NEC/NESC standards, support QA/QC, and gain experience across one‑line diagrams, control schematics, and SCADA. This paid internship emphasizes professional development within our Power and Energy Team.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering, or related, undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Demonstrated interest in electrical engineering, consulting engineering, the electric utility industry, or related field, and a desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
• Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Authorization to work in the United States at internship start.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn basic principles of Electrical Engineering.
• Work closely with experienced engineers on all aspects of utility substation design.
• Participate in detailed design tasks for substations, including diagrams, schematics, wiring, SCADA, and layouts.
• Perform design calculations following IEEE, NEC, NESC, and industry standards.
• Assist senior engineers with QA/QC design checks.
• Support design engineers with protection/control design for substations.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.
