Zusammenfassung

Westwood Professional Services is seeking an Electrical Substation Intern to join our substation engineering team. You will design and upgrade substations for utilities, applying IEEE, NESC, and NEC standards to create drawings, equipment specs, and protection/control schematics.

You will assist senior engineers with power system studies and participate in the full lifecycle from concept through construction support, traveling to project sites as needed.

Qualifikationen

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate Electrical Engineering program.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, interacting professionally with clients, management, and design team.
• Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary work environment.
• Willingness to attend site visits and perform outdoor field work, including energized substation environments under supervision.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Aufgaben

• Assist engineers in preparing substation one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and protection/control schematics.
• Support development of equipment specifications, bills of material, and construction drawings for substation design projects.
• Assist with power system studies, including short circuit, protective relay coordination, and grounding grid analyses.
• Help prepare physical layout and structural drawings for substation equipment (transformers, breakers, switchgear).
• Coordinate with civil, structural, and other design disciplines to support integrated substation packages.
• Travel to substation project sites to gather field data and support commissioning or construction activities.
