Job summary

Nexus Engineering Group is seeking an Electrical/Substation Engineer Co-op or Intern to work with electrical engineers and designers on deliverables for reliable power to utilities, industrial facilities, and critical infrastructure.

The role provides hands-on exposure to electrical substations, mentorship, and real-world project experience, with opportunities to develop drafting and modeling skills using AutoCAD and ETAP/SKM/EasyPower.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from a four-year college or university.
• Strong communication skills to convey ideas clearly.
• Ability to work in diverse teams with Nexus, clients, and others.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
• Willingness to take feedback and improve performance.
• Experience with drafting software is preferred (AutoCAD or similar).
• Familiarity with power system modeling software is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Complete limited complexity calculations with supervision as needed (lighting distribution, conduit fills, voltage drop, feeder sizing).
• Develop and maintain electrical single-line diagrams, schematics, and schedules for lighting, grounding, power, and raceways.
• Support electrical design activities for transmission and distribution substations.
• Assist with Power System Study models for short circuit, load flow, and protective device coordination.
• Collaborate with experienced engineers on assigned tasks and project deliverables.
