Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group seeks a Design Engineer - Substation to design substation layouts, protection & control and BOMs, reporting to a Supervising Engineer within a dedicated team.

You will develop schematics, wiring diagrams, and perform calculations while ensuring NEC/NESC/NEMA/IEEE/ANSI compliance; travel up to 25% is required; entry-level opportunities for growth exist with an ABET-accredited background.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor's in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering.
• Passing the FE exam is highly desirable; this is required for the Design Engineer 4 band.
• Willingness to learn substation components; previous design/construction experience is a plus.
• No prior electric utility industry experience required for entry level positions; higher bands possible with experience.
• Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and email.

Responsibilities

• Design physical substation components, yard layouts, grounding, protection systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists and panel layouts.
• Create design drawings, calculations, and BOMs from engineering documents.
• Perform engineering calculations including voltage drop, cable pulling, grounding analysis.
• Ensure project standards (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI) are followed.
• Conduct quality reviews and propose improvements to maintain accuracy.
• Collaborate with engineers and field personnel to develop solutions.
• Maintain detailed project documentation and calculations.
• Travel to project sites as needed; up to 10–25% of the time.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
