Job summary

Lincoln Electric System is seeking a Substation Design Engineer to design high‑voltage substations, ensuring reliability and safety of the grid. You will develop detailed design packages, optimize performance, and collaborate with engineers, contractors, and customers to push grid modernization forward.

You will participate in capital projects, asset management, and field assessments while adhering to NERC standards.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, substation design practices, and utility engineering standards.
• Knowledge of substation equipment, system integration, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations, analyses, and feasibility evaluations.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, one-line diagrams, specifications, contracts, and other technical documentation.
• Ability to prepare technical reports, cost estimates, specifications, and project recommendations.
• Ability to communicate technical information with engineers, contractors, consultants, vendors, customers, and internal/external stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize demands, and meet schedules.
• Proficient with MS Office and CAD/GIS tools.
• PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design process, substation layouts, equipment arrangement, drawings, material acquisition, scheduling, and optimization.
• Apply engineering standards and procedures for systems and applications.
• Prepare communications, estimates, and technical documentation for customers and contractors.
• Develop reports with justification for capital projects and asset management.
• Contribute to short- and long-range budgets.
• Coordinate project details with customers and external parties.
• Conduct field visits to assess conditions and future improvements.
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards (NERC).
• Represent the company in meetings with engineers, utilities, and others.
• Lead projects of varying size and complexity.
