Job summary

Toth and Associates, Inc. is seeking a Substation Engineer I/II in Billings, MT to support planning, design, and implementation of electrical substation projects for utilities and industrial clients. This role works under the direction of a PE and project managers to deliver technically sound, constructible, and code-compliant designs.

Requirements include a BS in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) with 0–4 years of experience. Travel up to 10% and a day shift are expected.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 0-4 years of experience in electrical engineering.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Support the design of physical substation components, including yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, raceways, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems.
• Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists and panel layouts.
• Develop design drawings, calculations, and bills of material from engineering documents for planning, construction, operation, and maintenance.
• Conduct engineering calculations, including voltage drop, cable pulling, flicker analysis, and grounding analysis.
• Apply applicable engineering standards and codes, including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI, ensuring consistent and compliant project execution.
• Perform quality reviews to check for inaccuracies, omissions, or compliance issues, and provide recommendations.
• Work collaboratively with engineers and project teams to develop solutions and modifications as needed.
• Maintain detailed project documentation and support engineering calculations.
• Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the stakeholders.
• Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
