Job summary

WSP is seeking an Experienced Substation Design Engineer in Saint Louis, MO to support a Power & Energy Substation Team. The role involves design, development, and construction of substations, with a focus on high-voltage systems and protection & control.

Hybrid or in-office work is preferred, with remote considered for qualified candidates. You will contribute to complex projects, mentor junior staff, and ensure designs meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or closely related field.
• 3–5 years of post-education experience in substation design for power transmission and distribution.
• Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
• Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
• Ability to coordinate with regulators and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of high-voltage substations (15kV-345kV, up to 500kV preferred).
• Develop physical layouts, bus arrangements, grounding, and protection & control systems.
• Review third-party designs, procurement lists, and project plans.
• Prepare reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for presentations.
• Collaborate with engineers and disciplines across projects.
