Job summary

ENERCON's Substation Group is seeking a Substation Designer - Physical Designer in multiple U.S. offices, including Overland Park, KS. Role may be filled as a Drafter or Designer based on experience. You will draft substation layouts, coordinate with engineers, and support field projects to keep energy flowing safely.

The position requires knowledge of MicroStation/AutoCAD, willingness to travel, and the ability to work across disciplines in a fast-paced environment. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in substation drafting/design.
• Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Willingness to enter energized substations with PPE.
• Strong time management and communication with stakeholders.
• Proficient in Windows and Office software.
• Willingness to travel for client visits.

Responsibilities

• Substation Design & Drafting: Develop or draft electric substation drawings including GA, elevations, conduit plans/details, grounding, foundations, lightning protection, and control buildings. Coordinate with Civil for foundations.
• Engineering Analysis & Calculations: Perform basic substation design calculations (lightning, voltage drop, conduit fill).
• Collaboration & Quality Assurance: Ensure accurate on-time electrical design meeting standards and client requirements.
• Field Support: Provide on-site technical support during construction and commissioning as needed.
