Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Substation Engineer in Fort Worth, TX. You will assist the project team through design and construction of high-voltage substations, aligning engineering plans with budget and client needs.

You will work under a licensed engineer, develop design deliverables, and contribute to schedules, QA/QC, and client communications in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
• Involvement on campus/community preferred.
• Basic knowledge of standard engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the design of substation projects from conceptual phase through completion.
• Assists in developing substation design packages: arrangement, protective relaying, control, grounding studies, lighting and security.
• Assists with substation calculations: insulation, DC systems, voltage drop, conductor sizing, conduit fill.
• Prepares design sketches, cost estimates, BOM, and other deliverables.
• Applies IEEE, NESC, and industry standards.
