Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Substation Engineer in Pittsburgh, PA, to support the design of high-voltage substations from concept to construction. You will assist with technical deliverables, field inspections, and project coordination under supervision of a licensed PE.

The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to schedules, and applying industry standards while developing practical engineering solutions for utility clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• EIT Certification preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the design of substation projects from the conceptual phase through completion.
• Assists in the preparation of substation design packages (layout, protection, relaying, grounding, etc).
• Assists in development of substation calculations (insulation, DC systems, voltage drop, etc).
• Assists in preparation of design sketches, estimates, BOMs, and other deliverables.
• Applies IEEE, NESC, and industry standards.
