Job summary

Tucson Electric Power in Tucson, AZ seeks a communications network engineer to design, implement, and support fiber, wireless, and IP/MPLS networks across substations and control centers. You will help secure data communications for SCADA, AMI, and grid automation while collaborating with IT and field teams.

The successful candidate will hold a BS in Engineering (ABET‑accredited) and have hands‑on experience with OSPF/BGP/VLANs, IP/MPLS, DNP3, IEC 61850, and firewall design.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution
• Knowledge of switching, routing, VLANs, OSPF, BGP, STP, WAN and IP/MPLS
• Experience with critical infrastructure communications: fiber, RF, wireless, OT networks
• Understanding of security: firewalls, cybersecurity frameworks, DNP3 and IEC 61850
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and cross‑team communication
• CCNA/CCNP/NRS preferred for Engineer II

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer telecom and operational network solutions for reliability and efficiency
• Develop and maintain fiber optic, microwave, RF, wireless, and IP/MPLS networks
• Support SCADA, AMI, grid automation, and tele‑protection data communications
• Lead or assist with telecom projects including planning, budgeting, and vendor coordination
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot, upgrades, and maintain security and regulatory compliance
• Create designs and documentation for substations, control centers, and field ops
