Job summary

Electric Power Systems (EPS) is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to coordinate testing and commissioning of electrical distribution and transmission substations for utility clients. You will supervise startup personnel, contractor electricians, and engineering staff to ensure safe and efficient project execution.

The role requires 5+ years in electrical equipment testing, knowledge of HV equipment, and a strong safety record.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or an associate degree is a plus and experience with microprocessor relays.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical equipment testing and inspection, including high voltage applications.
  • Knowledge of testing, commissioning and maintenance of power equipment.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Superior safety record.
  • Broad experience with transformers, breakers, and switchgear in power industry.
  • Experience in working in utility transmission substation is required.
  • Pre-employment drug screen due to safety-sensitive position.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate and lead testing and commissioning activities for substations (greenfield/brownfield).
  • Supervise startup personnel, electricians, and engineering teams.
  • Perform substation field engineering and oversight of testing.
  • Develop isolation/restoration procedures for safe energization.
  • Prepare integrated functional test plans for protection, control, and SCADA.
  • Lead functional testing and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Direct troubleshooting and corrective actions during commissioning.
  • Mark up field drawings, manage RFIs, and complete closeout documentation.
  • Provide on-site technical support to design, construction, and operations teams.
  • Interface with customers and stakeholders on operational needs and design improvements.
  • Deliver technical guidance on complex issues while following standards.
