Job summary

Copa Health seeks a Full-Time Substance Abuse Specialist to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team. The role involves collaborating with a multi-disciplinary care team to engage, assess, and provide stage-wise treatment, harm reduction, relapse prevention, and recovery support for individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.

The ACT Substance Abuse Specialist will support wellness goals and work across clinic, home, and community settings, using

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Health, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Human Services, or related field; two years of experience with adults diagnosed with SMI or co-occurring disorders.
• Fingerprint clearance card or eligible within eight weeks of hire.
• Reliable transportation and valid AZ Driver’s License with minimum insurance and Copa Health driving requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serves as ACT Team SME on substance abuse and co-occurring disorders and evidence-based interventions.
• Supports integrated co-occurring program implementation for adults with SMI and SUD.
• Provides outreach, engagement, stage-wise treatment, relapse prevention, and harm reduction in clinic, home, and community settings.
• Conducts substance use screenings, assessments, and reassessments using ASAM, DSM, and evidence-based tools.
• Provides individual and group substance use counseling and education.
• Coordinates care with detox, residential treatment, MAT, hospitals, and community recovery supports.
