Basic Function

Welds metal components to fabricate or repair products according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders, using brazing and various arc and gas welding equipment. Knowledge of welding procedures and practices is essential to ensure quality.

Job Responsibilities

• Welds metal structural components using Gas Metal Arc Welding and Submerged Arc Welding processes for steel electrical poles, substations, and structures.
• Performs hand welding, layout, marking, and may cut metal with a torch or plasma cutter.
• Conducts welding operations involving planning, working from blueprints, understanding metal properties, setting up work, and working in various positions, including critical safety and load requirements.

Skills / Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Graduate from an accredited trade school for welding
• Successful completion of an internal welding test
• Knowledge of welding symbols and procedures; AWS D1.1 certified in GMAW 1G, 2F, GMAW-P 3G Vertical Down, and SAW 1G, 2F
• Ability to interpret blueprints and weld requirement symbology
• Knowledge of fixturing and weld setup parameters (amps, volts, etc.)
• Basic mathematics skills and ability to use U.S. and Metric measurements
• After 90 days, maintain acceptable levels of production, quality, and attendance as determined by management.
