BASIC FUNCTION:

The welder fuses metal components to fabricate or repair products based on layouts, blueprints, or work orders, using brazing, arc, and gas welding equipment. A thorough knowledge of welding procedures is essential to ensure product quality.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Welds metal structural components using various Gas Metal Arc Welding and Submerged Arc Welding processes for steel electrical poles, substations, and structures.
  • Performs hand welding, sub arc welding, and may also lay out guidelines, mark on metal parts, and cut metal with a torch or plasma cutter.
  • Executes welding operations involving planning, layout, working from blueprints or specifications, understanding welding properties of metals, setting up work, and working in various positions to meet safety and load requirements.

SKILLS /QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited trade school for welding.
  • Successful completion of an internal welding test.
  • Knowledge of welding symbols and procedures; AWS D1.1 certification in GMAW 1G, 2F, GMAW-P 3G Vertical Down, and SAW 1G, 2F.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, including weld requirement symbols.
  • Knowledge of fixturing and weld setup parameters (amps, volts, etc.).
  • Basic math skills for calculating formulas; proficiency with U.S. and Metric measurements.
  • Within 90 days, the candidate must maintain acceptable production, quality, and attendance levels as determined by management.
