Job summary

Tonal in New York, NY is seeking a Studio Technician to support our multi-camera studio production workflows. You will be the first-line tech for on-site issues and help keep shoots on schedule with the Technical Studio Operations Manager and Technical Director.

Join a fast-paced team, assist with cameras, lighting, audio, and comms, and learn broadcast systems while maintaining production readiness and effective communication across directors, producers, and assistants.

Qualifications

  • 2–3+ years in a production environment or relevant training/education.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with a willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Technical thinker who stays calm under pressure.
  • Able to work independently and with a team across cross-functional partners.
  • Basic familiarity with cameras, lighting, and audio gear.
  • Interest in broadcast systems, workflows, and technical solutions.
  • Able to lift/move equipment up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
  • Willing to take on varied tasks to support the team and production needs.

Responsibilities

  • Be on site every day to provide first-level tech support in the studio.
  • Assist with basic maintenance and organization of cameras, lighting, audio gear, and comms.
  • Keep studio spaces and equipment production-ready and organized.
  • Run and manage cables and support video village needs as required.
  • Help update documentation and track equipment or workflow changes.
  • Troubleshoot basic issues and escalate complex problems to senior staff.
  • Coordinate with Directors, Producers, and Production Assistants to meet shoot needs.
  • Learn and operate the lighting board to assist in lighting looks.
  • Support specialty shoot gear load-ins and setups (photoshoots, promos, sets).
  • Collaborate with IT for related technical tasks as needed.
