Job summary

Tonal is seeking a Studio Technician on-site in New York to support multi-camera live and live-to-tape productions. You will be the first-level tech contact on the studio floor, helping the team stay on schedule and ensuring smooth shoots.

Responsibilities include maintaining cameras, lighting, audio, and comms gear, organizing spaces, and running cables. You’ll collaborate with Directors, Producers, and PAs while learning the lighting board and studio workflow.

Qualifications

  • 2–3+ years in a production environment (studio, live events, or similar).
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and eager to learn and take direction.
  • Calm, reliable under pressure and able to work independently or with a team.
  • Basic familiarity with cameras, lighting, and audio gear.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Be on site every day as first-level tech support for studio issues.
  • Assist with maintenance and organization of cameras, lighting, audio, and comms gear.
  • Keep studio spaces and cables organized and production-ready.
  • Support running and managing cables (video, audio, power) as needed.
  • Update documentation and track equipment or workflow changes.
  • Troubleshoot basic issues and escalate complex problems to seniors.
  • Communicate with Directors, Producers and PAs to meet Video Village needs.
  • Learn and operate the studio lighting board for adjustments.
  • Handle specialized shoot gear/rental load-ins and setup.
  • Collaborate with IT as needed.
