Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to translate scientific topics for diverse audiences.
• Experience writing for student publications or professional settings.
• Familiarity with AP style and editorial feedback.

Responsibilities

• Research, write and edit feature stories, news articles, newsletter content, web copy and other communications materials
• Interview faculty, staff, students, alumni and other sources to gather information, quotes and story details
• Translate scientific and technical topics into clear, accessible language while maintaining accuracy
• Identify potential stories involving COSAM’s people, programs, research and community impact
• Assist with developing content for COSAM publications, websites and digital platforms
• Proofread and fact-check materials for accuracy, clarity, consistency and adherence to AP style
• Coordinate with photographers, videographers and other members of the Communications and Marketing team as needed
• Manage assignments and deadlines while communicating regularly with the Communications and Marketing team
• Perform other related duties as assigned
