Job Summary

The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment Office of Communications and Marketing is seeking a student to assist with journalism, social media, web content management, photography, video production, and other content as needed. The ideal candidate will be a journalism, public relations, marketing, or mass communications major/minor student who has a specialized interest in translating the methods, impacts, and wider applications of scientific research for a wide variety of public audiences to interest, engage, and garner support in the college’s mission areas of research, teaching, and outreach, as well as its development initiatives.

Essential Functions
  • Assist staff with social media, website updates, and content development.
  • Assist staff with event promotions, videography, and photography.
  • Conduct, document, and catalog interviews with faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
  • Develop content to promote the activities of faculty, alumni, students, and student organizations within print, digital, and social media.
  • Assist faculty and staff with the content development, layout, and editing of digital and print materials, including brochures, advertisements, flyers, signage, and other collateral materials.
  • Assist with the drafting and distribution of press releases and other media announcements as needed.
  • Assist the staff to update and maintain digital advertising within the college.
  • Conduct market research studies and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled student at Auburn University.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or Mass Communications major/minor student.
  • Specialized interest in translating the methods, impacts, and wider applications of scientific research for a wide variety of public audiences to interest, engage, and garner support in the college’s research, academic, development, and outreach programs.
  • Freshman or sophomore‑year candidate.
  • Experience with Microsoft and Adobe products, as well as WordPress.
Expectations
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities independently and on deadline is required.
  • Demonstrate maturity, professionalism, self‑discipline, and attention to detail in their work and interactions.
  • Excellent writing skills, working knowledge of Associated Press and Chicago writing styles.
