Job Overview

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker – Nursing Course Assistant (Nursing CA). The role provides support to School of Nursing students through supplemental instruction, tutoring, coaching, and skills practice, and may require weekday, weekend, or evening hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• Attend all lectures of assigned classes and model effective learning behaviors.
• Plan and run weekly supplemental instruction (SI) sessions with faculty support.
• Provide one‑on‑one and group tutoring.
• Coach students toward academic success.
• Offer nursing skills support.
• Notify students of upcoming workshops, events, and additional support resources.
• Meet regularly with NSSC staff to provide feedback and facilitate departmental growth.
• Meet regularly with collaborating instructor.
• Provide administrative support as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Enrolled as a degree‑seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State.
• Current pre‑licensure BSN student within the Nevada State University School of Nursing.
• Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Attend all required trainings each semester, occurring during the two‑week period prior to the new semester.
• Attend all required meetings or professional training during the week, weekends, and school breaks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong work ethic, initiative, and ability to work independently.

• Knowledgeable of (or able to obtain information about) student‑relevant dates and policies such as add/drop dates, financial aid, academic standing, chain of command, etc.
• Knowledgeable of other student support services that Nevada State students can access (training will be provided to supplement existing knowledge of Nevada State resources).

Work Hours & Compensation

Anticipated number of hours per week is around 8–10 hours, but the actual number of hours may vary up to as many as 19.5 hours during training and special event weeks. Student employees can work up to 19.5 hours per week. Hourly Rate: $16.00 per hour.
