Job summary

Normandin Middle School in New Bedford, MA, seeks a School Adjustment Counselor to support students’ academic and social-emotional development. The role involves coordinating with families, teachers, and community services to promote positive school adjustment and well-being.

The candidate will address behavioral concerns, implement strategies, and participate in RTI and PBIS initiatives, with emphasis on inclusivity and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Certification as School Adjustment Counselor by MA DESE.
  • Licensed or eligible for LMHC, LCSW, or LICSW.
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred.
  • Three to five years in mental health/clinical social work.
  • Experience with FACTS Teams and crisis response.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess academic and behavioral concerns affecting student adjustment.
  • Serve as liaison between families and school to promote collaboration.
  • Educate families on attendance, graduation, and college planning.
  • Develop and implement RTI model with school and community supports.
  • Provide individual and group counseling for anxiety, social skills, anger, etc.
  • Coordinate bullying prevention program (Olweus).
  • Develop behavior improvement plans for student needs.
  • Develop PBIS system for school-wide positive behavior.
  • Conduct classroom meetings and psycho-educational groups.
  • Provide crisis intervention and social work case management.
