Job summary

Portland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated paraeducator to support students at Valley View Elementary School and Brownstone Intermediate School. The position begins mid-November under the supervision of certified staff, assisting with instructional activities to meet classroom goals.

You will support reading, math, and other subject areas, supervise non-instructional areas, assist with IEP objectives, and help maintain a safe, orderly learning environment while protecting student

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• College coursework or passing No Child Left Behind requirements is required.
• Experience with students with special needs is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist certified staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals.
• Support reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction and other skills.
• Assist in administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
• Assist in classroom preparations and strategies, reinforce instructional materials.
• Maintain records documenting student learning and performance.
• Assist with classroom behavioral management to maintain a safe, orderly environment.
• Supervise non-instructional areas (lunch, bus duty, playground, etc.).
• Accompany students on field trips to assist with supervision.
• Create and distribute educational materials as needed.
• Assist with parent contact to involve families in education.
• Support students with special needs to maximize inclusion and achievement.
• Participate in IEP process as a resource to the team.
