Job summary

Albemarle County Public Schools is seeking a part‑time Teaching Assistant (Lunch Monitor) for Burley Middle School for the 2026‑27 school year. The role supports the classroom teacher with instructional tasks, supervision, and related clerical duties in a busy middle school environment.

Responsibilities include assisting with lessons, managing classroom behavior, supervising lunch periods, and helping with attendance and records.

Qualifications

Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward disabled students; willingness to learn instructional techniques.
Ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff; CPR certification is optional.

Responsibilities

Carry out instructional plans and follow‑up lessons as designated by the classroom teacher.
Maintain pleasant and orderly classroom environment; assist with materials and bulletin boards.
Assist teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom behavior and discipline with approval.
Procure, set up, and operate audio‑visual equipment.
Assist in attendance, lunch monies collection, and other clerical tasks as directed.
Supervise students in lunchroom and during non‑instructional periods.
Assist with moving students and equipment as needed.
Participate in team meetings and support related services as required.
