Albemarle County Public Schools is seeking a Part-Time Teaching Assistant: Lunch Monitor at Journey Middle School for the 2026-27 school year. The role runs 11:00 am to 1:05 pm, Monday through Friday, in a temporary capacity.

The position supports teachers, supervises students, assists with lunch periods, and helps maintain classroom order. The ideal candidate will hold a high school diploma, be willing to obtain CPR certification, and demonstrate empathy and strong communication with students,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Willing to seek and maintain CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Carry out instructional plans as designated by the classroom teacher and, if appropriate, the student's IEP.
• Assist in follow-up and review lessons.
• Maintain a pleasant and orderly classroom environment and assist in setup of instructional materials.
• Support teacher in maintaining classroom behavior and control.
• Assist with appropriate disciplinary actions under teacher guidance.
• Set up and operate audio-visual equipment for lessons.
• Assist students in completing learning tasks and in related instructional activities.
• Supervise students during lunch and non-instructional times as directed.
• Assist with attendance, lunch money collection, and clerical duties as directed.
• Assist in moving students between learning environments and during field trips.
• Help maintain students’ records under supervision.
